The Southern Foodways Alliance is an organization that's near and dear to our hearts at Royal Cup. Since 2009, Royal Cup has participated in the event and has provided coffee for all attendees since 2012.
Each fall, the SFA holds their symposium in Oxford, Mississippi. This year's theme was corn, and how it has served the region as symbol, sustenance, and problem. The three-day-long event was filled with amazing food and talented chefs, educational speakers, historians, and filmmakers -- and, of course, great coffee.
From top to bottom, and left to right:
1. Our mobile cafe set up outside of the Lyric Theater, ready to serve some free espresso drinks.
2. Some of our team members who got up at 5 a.m. to brew coffee for guests. Gotta love their dedication!
3. A cup of coffee from Big Bad Breakfast -- because no trip to Oxford is complete without some BBB bacon.
4. A pourover coffee station we set up for guests -- here, we're serving a single-origin Ethiopian Yirgacheffe (if you loved it at the SFA, you can buy it here).
5. An event like this takes a lot of work. You can see how many brewers we had to fill for just a few hours of serving coffee! Whew!
6. A traditional Native American lunch that Sean Sherman, founder of The Sioux Chef, served guests at the SFA. The meal had no sugar, eggs, pork, or wheat, but was still refined and tasted incredibly fresh.
7. Our loose leaf tea tasted as pretty as it looked in this display.
Overall, we had a wonderful time at the SFA Symposium and hope to see everyone again next year!
